Tracker Season 2 Image Reveals First Look At Jensen Ackles’ Russell Reuniting With Justin Hartley’s Colter

A new image from Tracker season 2 reveals Jensen Ackles and Justin Hartley’s onscreen reunion. The show is based on Jeffrey Deaver’s bestselling novel The Never Game. The first season followed Colter Shaw, played by Hartley, a survivalist and tracker for hire, navigating dangerous cases while uncovering truths about his family’s past. Ackles’ first time portraying Colter’s estranged brother, Russell, was in the penultimate episode of season 1. It was later confirmed that he would be returning for Tracker season 2.

Now, in People‘s exclusive first look at Tracker season 2, Ackles’ latest appearance as Russell has been revealed. The publication released an image of Ackles and Hartley in the upcoming season, which appears to show the two onscreen brothers investigating something in the outdoors. Russell in particular looks surprised at what he’s seeing. Check it out below:

Elsewhere in the story, Hartley opened up about working with Ackles, praising the Supernatural star for his performance as Russell. Hartley said:

Jensen and I have known each other for a long time, we just never had a chance to work together. Jensen is the perfect guy to play Russell. It’s such a well fleshed out character in the book and even more so with what we’ve done on the show.

And then Jensen just brings to it the next level.

Additionally, showrunner Elwood Reid revealed Ackles will appear in “more than one” episode in Tracker season 2. However, the exact count has not yet been revealed.

What This Means For Tracker Season 2

This season marks something of a reunion for Hartley and Ackles, as they both previously starred on Smallville, where Hartley portrayed Oliver Queen/Green Arrow and Ackles was Jason Teague. However, they never actually shared scenes together. Hartley first hinted at Ackles’ return to Tracker during the Television Critics Association 2024 Press Tour in July, saying, “We got him; he’s coming back.” Russell’s involvement indicates Tracker season 2 is keen on continuing the stories it established in season 1, and that he can continue to be a major recurring player.

The end of Tracker season 1, which involved Colter discovering certain information about his father and siblings, sets up an exciting return for Russell in season 2. Though it seems likely his arrival will pick up on the storyline surrounding his and Colter’s family, his first episode in season 2 will feature a compelling plot on top of that. He will arrive in episode 2, “Ontological Shock,” which will air on Sunday, October 20. The episode will see Colter vanishing while he’s looking for a missing father, while Reenie (Fiona Rene) calls Russell for help.

Our Take On Tracker Season 2

An Exciting Dynamic Is Ahead

Ackles and Hartley’s reunion in Tracker season 2 will give the show a new energy and dynamic. Because of their long-standing friendship, and eagerness to work together, it’s likely they will have a natural chemistry that only enhances their onscreen dynamic. More exciting action scenes and deeper character development are probably in store for this season, as well as plot twists, emotional depth, and more dramatic confrontations. Additionally, it seems Tracker has big plans for Russell, and it’ll be exciting to see more of his character going forward.

Tracker season 2 premieres on October 13.
