It Costs You More To Go Anywhere
There has been quite a bit of optimistic talk of a potential coming drop in fuel costs recently. Wouldn’t that be nice for a change?
Those discussions were however being had while the Rand was doing well. Recently, the, unfortunately, Rand took a bit of dip in the other direction, losing some value against the US Dollar. This may mean that those much hoped for small reductions in fuel costs could be put on hold. Let’s all hope not.
After all, the cost of transportation of good or even ourselves is a significant factor in what we pay for services or products.
Recent figures from Stats SA show that transport costs went up by 14.3% year-on-year. The largest factor in that being increases in fuel prices. Petrol & diesel recently went up by over 7% between February and March this year alone.
‘petrol is now 33% more expensive’
If you compare fuel costs now with how they looked a year ago, petrol is now 33% more expensive, and diesel 35% more expensive. That has an impact on the price of the food we buy, the deliveries we order and the rides we take. With many companies asking employees to come back to the office this has a big impact.
