What We Do In The Shadows Season 6 Just Introduced A Way For Guillermo To Move On From Nandor For Good

WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for What We Do in the Shadows season 6.

FX’s What We Do in the Shadows season 6 hints at how Guillermo can finally move on from his push-and-pull dynamic with his former master Nandor. What We Do in the Shadows returned for its sixth and final season on October 21, 2024, airing the first three episodes on FX before releasing them on Hulu the following day. Every key member of the What We Do in the Shadows cast returned for the celebrated series created by Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement, who also wrote, directed, and starred in the 2014 original film of the same name.

The series finale will be released on FX on December 16, 2024, to conclude what critics have called a solid final season of What We Do in the Shadows. The first three episodes pick up after the events of the What We Do in the Shadows season 5 finale as longtime familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) has his dream of becoming a vampire finally realized. What We Do in the Shadows is poised to receive its fourth Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series with the release of its final season.

Hypnosis Is The Best Way For Guillermo To Move On In What We Do In The Shadows

Guillermo is way too attached to Nandor and everyone to leave on his own

Hypnosis is one of the various superpowers that the vampires in What We Do in the Shadows possess. Hypnosis is used constantly throughout the series, mostly to make people forget that they know that the vampire crew are vampires. In an attempt to hang onto his fleeting power in the house now that Guillermo has moved to the garden shed and started a career in the corporate world, Colin Robinson attempts to hypnotize Nandor in his sleep to prevent him from teaming up with Nadja and Laszlo against him.

What We Do in the Shadows season 6 kicks off with the addition of a new roommate character named Jerry the Vampire played by SNL alum Mike O’Brien.

While Colin Robsinon’s attempt at hypnosis doesn’t exactly go the way he had planned, and inspires Nadja to experiment with her own sleep hypnosis on Laszlo, hypnosis may actually be the best solution for Guillermo to fully move on with his life without the vampires. At the end of What We Do in the Shadows episode 3, Guillermo accidentally hypnotizes himself after seeking Baron Afanas for help, which inadvertently demonstrates a path forward to living a life without the vampires once and for all.

What We Do In The Shadows Season 6 Proves Guillermo Will Never Naturally Move On From The Vampires

Even when Guillermo “moves on” from being their familiar at the end of What We Do in the Shadows season 5, he’s still connected to them as shown by him living in the shed and getting pulled into their drama in season 6. For him to fully move on, he will need to forget they exist, just like the crew did after listening to Baron’s spell. Guillermo completely forgets that he is a vampire after being hypnotized and asks Nandor to be a familiar again. For Guillermo to follow his own path after What We Do in the Shadows season 6, he may have to ask to be permanently hypnotized.
