Who’s The Boss Sequel Show With Original Stars Scrapped After 2 Years (But Isn’t Dead Yet)

The Who’s the Boss? sequel show with original stars has been scrapped after two years of development, though it isn’t dead quite yet. Aired on ABC for eight seasons from 1984 to 1992, the sitcom follows a former Major League Baseball player Tony Micelli (played by Tony Danza) who, with his daughter Samantha Micelli (Alyssa Milano), moves to Fairfield, Connecticut and takes a job as a live-in housekeeper for a divorced advertising executive, Angela Bower (Judith Light). In 2022, it was reported that a Who’s the Boss? sequel series, starring Danza and Milano, was in the works at Amazon Freevee.

Now, after two years of development, the sequel show with the two original stars has reportedly been scrapped. According to Deadline, the Who’s the Boss? sequel series is not moving forward at Amazon Freevee. Sony Pictures Television, which owns the rights to the original series and has been developing the sequel, hasn’t pitched the project to other platforms yet, though it reportedly remains alive at the studio.

What This News Means For The Who’s The Boss Sequel Series

It’s Not Moving Forward At Amazon Freevee, But Remains Alive

After years of positive developments, this is the first roadblock that the Who’s the Boss? sequel series has hit, though it shouldn’t be a devastating blow to its chances. It’s been in development since 2020 with Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano returning and officially landed on Amazon Freeve in 2022. After several positive updates, the sequel series was stalled by the writers’ strike in 2023, and now the streamer has scrapped the project, though it’s unclear why. Even so, it remains alive at the studio and still has a chance to be shopped to other platforms.
