The announcement of the 20th Anniversary Events for World of Warcraft left many players surprised to hear about some of the features and faces that would be available during the event period. This 20th-anniversary event will be running from October 22, 2024, to January 6, 2025, giving an ample amount of time to explore all that it has to offer. This WoW event will be available alongside the 11.0.5 patch, so players will immediately be able to dive into the brand-new and revitalized content after updating.
Not only will the update be adding new class and talent content, but rejuvenated raids from previous WoW expansion packs and new quests are the least of some players’ interests. It’s the collectibles that many are looking forward to, as a mixture of classic and new companion pets and mounts will be available for purchase with the new event currency. There is one mount that has had many players spamming emotes, as the Obsidian Worldbreaker mount will be readily available for the first time since its release five years ago.
Obsidian Worldbreaker & How To Get It
The Return Of One Of WoW’s Rarest Mounts
Players who missed out on the Obsidian Worldbreaker mount during the World of Warcraft 15th Anniversary event will be happy to hear that the giant dragon will return. Fashioned to be an exact likeness of Deathwing, the Obsidian Worldbreaker features tattered wings and a glowing lava-speckled chest.
This mount has only been available on the Black Market Auction House and has gone for egregious amounts of in-game currency, making it a rare find for many. It was previously a reward for completing a Feat of Strength achievement during the anniversary event, making it nearly impossible to gain now without bidding wars.

World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, The War Within, has introduced a variety of new pet models that will be of interest to the MMO’s players.
Within the new event, however, players will be able to purchase the Obsidian Worldbreaker and other classic WoW mounts by using the Bronze Celebration Tokens. This event currency is available from participating in anniversary event activities, as opposed to the quest line and holiday raid completion that was required to get the achievement in the past.
The Tokens can also be traded through players’ Warbands, making participating in multiple events across many characters beneficial for acquiring the currency. This currency will be available from different event activities, defeating World Bosses, and other activities.
Why Obsidian Worldbreaker’s Return Matters
Blizzard Is On The Right Track With 20th Anniversary Events
The return of the Obsidian Worldbreaker is not just the reintroduction of an incredible mount. It shows an interesting aspect of the way that Blizzard interacts with its player base.
With time-limited rewards and exclusive anniversary content being largely inaccessible, if players cannot participate while it is current, there is often a severe surcharge on rare mounts like Obsidian Worldbreaker within the auction spaces. This act from Blizzard seems like a step in the right direction, as players seem excited to have the opportunity to experience this mount with the skyriding mechanic, even if it isn’t as exclusive.
The anniversary event offerings for

stand as a good point for Blizzard to reintroduce some of the older content.
Blizzard’s actions with the reintroduction of this mount and some of the other anniversary event offerings for World of Warcraft stand as a good point for the company to reintroduce some of the older content with a new twist or to offer to newer players while the veterans get to share old raid stories. Since there was the ReMix event earlier this year, it is refreshing to see Blizzard revitalize its collectible accessibility. Here’s hoping that the Ashes of Al’ar finally get put on sale.
