Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 has seen a new side of Gary King and his relationship with Daisy Kelliher, but can he get her back on his side after dropping the ball with their friendship? As Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 gets underway, the relationship between Daisy and Gary will be the most followed by viewers who have been watching the show for years. Gary, the First Officer of Parsifal III, has been part of the crew for several seasons alongside Daisy, who joined in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, along with former Chief Engineer Colin MacRae.
Daisy’s relationships with Gary and Colin looked somewhat similar during their first seasons of the series. While Daisy may have originally been interested in boatmances, she didn’t seem to follow through on any of the potential connections she had with Gary or Colin for quite some time. Though she was interested in Colin romantically, Daisy’s relationship with Gary always seemed to be more platonic than romantic. During Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, it became clear that Daisy and Colin were going to become more than friends, but Gary struggled with where that left him in the mix of things.
While Gary and Colin were great friends and Gary and Daisy were as well, the idea that two of his friends were going to be together romantically left Gary feeling his feelings. Jealous, annoyed, and overwhelmed, Gary’s behavior toward Daisy was worse than the behavior toward Colin. He struggled to regulate his emotions, finding himself at the center of the drama more often than not during the charter season. After the season, the Below Deck Sailing Yacht cast filmed their reunion, which brought up some issues that most of the yachties thought they were over, but the wounds ran deep.
Daisy & Gary Have Been Friends Since Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2
They’ve Been Friends Since The Beginning
Although Gary and Daisy are the two returning yachties on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, their time on the series began years prior. Joining the cast during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, Daisy and Gary were among the new blood that joined the crew working beneath Captain Glenn Shephard. While both had been in the industry for quite some time, working aboard a Below Deck vessel was completely different than anticipated.

While Gary’s playboy attitude was noticed right away, Daisy seemed to be immune to his ways as they moved through the charter season. Though it may have been difficult for Gary to comprehend at first, he found friendship with Daisy and Colin, which seemed to make the charter bearable for the trio. Working together well, the yachties had each other’s backs throughout the next few difficult charter seasons.
Gary’s Attitude Toward Daisy At BDSY Season 4’s Reunion Was Uncalled For
He Was Hard On Daisy
Although Gary and Daisy have always been friendly, their tone throughout Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 was difficult. Daisy and Colin, who had long been the flirtier pair of the trio, began considering changing the nature of their relationship as things seemingly got more romantic. The romance factor changed the way their dynamics with Gary played out, as well as the dynamics they had with each other. Daisy and Gary struggled through the season, especially when he seemed to take his annoyance with her out on other women.
After Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 wrapped, the cast got back together to film the reunion of the series and discuss the drama, highlighting Daisy and Colin’s relationship and Gary’s animosity. Gary struggled to keep himself professional as he moved through the reunion, and when things got heated between the trio, Gary spoke more harshly to Daisy than he did to Colin. Getting irritated, Gary’s behavior toward Daisy was uncalled for and kept her feeling hostile toward her former friend.
Daisy’s Blowup At Gary Made It Clear Where She Stands
She’s Not Happy With Gary
Although Daisy and Gary have struggled in their friendship in the past, many were hopeful that by the time Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 came to pass, things would be smoothed over between the pair. Unfortunately, Daisy and Gary were at odds during the highly-anticipated season premiere. Despite there being quite a long time between the last reunion and the current season, in reality, there were only days between Gary and Daisy filming the reunion and reuniting for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5.
While Daisy and Gary struggled through their initial conversation, it was clear that Daisy was angrier with Gary than he was with her. It didn’t appear clear if Gary understood how out of line he’d been at the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 reunion, but Daisy made sure that he was aware of how unhappy she was with him in the interim. She blew up at Gary during the premiere, making it abundantly clear that she wasn’t happy with the way he’d treated her.
Gary Should’ve Been Kinder To Daisy After Coming For Her
He Should’ve Apologized
After so much history, Gary and Daisy’s friendship should have been a priority for him moving into the next season of the series. Though he was meant to speak his mind at the reunion, Gary creating so much tension between himself and Daisy wasn’t the right move for the First Officer, especially knowing he was going to be working with Daisy in the coming days and weeks. Throughout Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s history, Gary has been given the benefit of the doubt too often, and sometimes struggles when people actually hold him accountable.
Though Gary wasn’t interested in making amends with Daisy in the moment, he should’ve given up his side of the fight and apologized. While he may not have meant the apology, he seemed to have the wherewithal to understand that it was necessary to move forward in the charter season with some ease. Throughout Daisy and Gary’s relationship, they’ve been able to talk somewhat openly about their feelings, so seeing both of them struggle to communicate was surprising.
Can Daisy & Gary Repair Their Friendship?
It Could Be Tricky
Although it may be tricky, Gary and Daisy should make the effort to repair their friendship. While the issues between them aren’t easy, their friendship has been a longstanding one that deserves their attention, despite some of the differences they’re facing. If Gary can apologize for his behavior and Daisy can find it within herself to forgive him, the pair should do their best to make up for the past and move forward on Below Deck Sailing Yacht together.
