Diddy Blasts 50 Cent & Netflix Over ‘The Reckoning’

After 50 Cent appeared on Good Morning America to discuss his upcoming Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning, Diddy fired back through his attorney, who slammed the streamer, its president, and 50 himself. The attorney called the project a “shameful hit piece” that relies on stolen footage and features someone [50 Cent] with a personal vendetta.

On Monday, 50 was featured on the morning show, sitting down with Robin Roberts, detailing the moments leading up to his arrest last year in New York.

“If I didn’t say anything, you would interpret it as hip-hop being fine with his behavior, he explained, making it clear that this project grew out of something deeper than old industry drama.

He even admitted he was shocked by some of the footage that ended up in the documentary, including a clip of Diddy on the phone with his lawyers before his arrest, where he calmly says, “We are losing.”

Another scene shows Diddy joking about needing hand sanitizer and a shower after greeting fans, a moment 50 says quietly exposes how the mogul viewed himself and those around him. All of it, he shared, pushed him from just posting memes to actually backing a full-scale docuseries.

“That shows you his character,” said 50. “What are the odds that you would do that in front of a camera?”

Even with decades of tension between them, 50 emphasized that The Reckoning isn’t about revenge. He said the friction wasn’t born out of jealousy or competition, but discomfort.

He described some of Diddy’s behavior as “a tester…maybe you’ll come play with me type thing.”

“It’s not personal,” added 50.

Director Aleandria Stapleton echoed that point during the GMA segment, explaining that not every participant in the documentary is tied to an allegation. The goal, she said, is to tell a truthful, balanced story about who Diddy was publicly and privately, through the people who actually lived around him and two jurors.

Together, the GMA conversation made one thing clear: this doc isn’t just about Diddy…it’s about examining an industry that let certain behaviors slide for too long.

“I think he’ll see the truth in it,” said 50 about what he believes Diddy will take from the documentary.

Variety reports that Sean “Diddy” Combs’ spokesperson is forcefully denouncing 50 Cent’s upcoming Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning, labeling it a “shameful hit piece” and accusing the streamer of relying on “stolen footage that was never authorized for release.”

In the statement obtained by Variety, Combs’ camp argues that Netflix is exploiting private material he’s been collecting since age 19 “to tell his own story, in his own way,” claiming the streamer is “misappropriating that work” and “sensationalizing every minute” of his life. The spokesperson also accused Netflix of pulling “private footage out of context,” including conversations with Combs’ attorneys that were “never intended for public viewing.”

The statement further criticizes Netflix for giving creative control to Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, calling him “a longtime adversary with a personal vendetta who has spent too much time slandering Mr. Combs.”

The rep added that the decision felt like a “deeply personal affront,” noting Combs has “long respected” Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and “expected fairness from people he respected.”

See Diddy’s full statement via Variety below:

Netflix’s so-called ‘documentary’ is a shameful hit piece. Today’s GMA teaser confirms that Netflix relied on stolen footage that was never authorized for release. As Netflix and CEO Ted Sarandos know, Mr. Combs has been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story, in his own way. It is fundamentally unfair, and illegal, for Netflix to misappropriate that work.

Netflix is plainly desperate to sensationalize every minute of Mr. Combs’s life, without regard for truth, in order to capitalize on a never-ending media frenzy. If Netflix cared about truth or about Mr. Combs’s legal rights, it would not be ripping private footage out of context – including conversations with his lawyers that were never intended for public viewing. No rights in that material were ever transferred to Netflix or any third party.

It is equally staggering that Netflix handed creative control to Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson – a longtime adversary with a personal vendetta who has spent too much time slandering Mr. Combs.

Beyond the legal issues, this is a personal breach of trust. Mr. Combs has long respected Ted Sarandos and admired the legacy of Clarence Avant. For Netflix to give his life story to someone who has publicly attacked him for decades feels like an unnecessary and deeply personal affront. At minimum, he expected fairness from people he respected.

Sean Combs: The Reckoning debuts on Netflix TODAY, December 2, 2025, marking one of the most anticipated and controversial releases of the year.
