A third Inmate Death this Year at FCI Fort Dix Raises Safety Concerns Inside Federal Prison
Burlington County, NJ β Lew Lew Media
A 25-year-old inmate, Jarrette Morales, died early Saturday morning at the Federal Correctional Institution at Fort Dix, according to federal officials. Morales was discovered unresponsive at 2:15 a.m. and was later pronounced dead by EMS personnel. The FBI has been notified, which is standard procedure in deaths occurring in federal custody.1
Morales had been serving a 76-month sentence from Puerto Rico for drug-related offenses, including conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in a drug-trafficking crime. He had been housed at Fort Dix since July 2, 2024.
Officials stated that no staff or inmates were injured and confirmed that there was no threat to the public. The cause of Moralesβ death has not yet been released.
Morales is the third inmate to die at Fort Dix in 2025, following two earlier reported deaths:
Javier Francisco Villalba-Reyes of Mexico (died in March)
Marcos Sanchez-Santana of Puerto Rico (died in April)
Federal authorities have not released causes of death for either of those cases.
The series of fatalities has raised renewed concerns regarding inmate health, emergency response procedures, and overall conditions inside FCI Fort Dix β one of the nationβs largest federal prison complexes.
Lew Lew Media will continue to monitor developments as further information becomes available.
