Sean “Diddy” Combs’ high-profile federal trial finally wrapped up earlier this year, drawing intense attention from the legal world and pop culture alike. The music mogul — known through his career as Puff Daddy, P. Diddy and Puffy — was indicted in September 2024 on sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and prostitution-related charges following a lengthy federal investigation. In July 2025, a jury acquitted him of the most serious allegations but found him guilty on two prostitution-related counts.

In October 2025, Combs was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison — just over four years — along with a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release after accounting for time already served.

Combs is currently serving his sentence at a federal facility in New Jersey and has filed an appeal seeking immediate release or a reduction of his sentence, arguing that the sentencing judge improperly considered evidence tied to acquitted charges — a move that now heads to the U.S. Court of Appeals.

HollywoodLife has all the latest on Diddy’s sentencing, the impact on his career and what’s next in his legal battle, below.

When Was Diddy’s Sentencing Hearing?

Diddy’s sentencing hearing took place on October 3, 2025, concluding a months-long legal battle that began in the spring. The hearing was presided over by a federal judge in New York. The judge handed down the final sentence after reviewing pre-sentencing reports and arguments from both the prosecution and defense.

Diddy’s Prison Sentence Details

Diddy was officially sentenced on October 3, 2025, to 4 years and two months following a trial that began on May 12, 2025. While he was found not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, the court ruled on lesser prostitution-related convictions connected to the same investigation.

Ahead of the verdict, former New York City prosecutor and criminal defense attorney Paul Callan told Us Weekly that a sentence of “10 to 20 years” was likely if Diddy were convicted. “Given the severity of the charges, a lengthy jail sentence is a virtual certainty if he is convicted,” Callan said in September 2024, adding that federal prosecutors “generally obtain guilty pleas or convictions after trial in more than 90% of the cases they bring.”

Callan added that prosecutors “presented a strong case to both federal judges that Combs was likely to flee and/or threaten witnesses in the case if released.”

“In such cases, the federal courts will sustain pretrial incarceration,” he added. “The lower court decision can be appealed but I believe a reversal of the lower court order is unlikely.”

Why Was Diddy in Jail?

Diddy was held at MDC Brooklyn during his federal criminal proceedings following his September 2024 indictment. Prosecutors initially charged the music mogul with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, alleging that he operated a criminal enterprise for years.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Combs was accused of using his influence, businesses and inner circle to facilitate the exploitation and abuse of women. The sweeping indictment alleged crimes including sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice. Diddy pleaded not guilty to all charges.

After a lengthy trial in 2025, a jury acquitted Combs of the most serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. However, he was convicted on prostitution-related offenses tied to the case. He remained in custody and later appeared in court on October 3, 2025, when he was formally sentenced.

Did Diddy Get Released From Jail?

No, Diddy has not been released from prison. Following his October 3, 2025 sentencing, Diddy was ordered to remain incarcerated as he began serving his prison term.

Later that month, TMZ reported that Donald Trump was “vacillating” on commuting Diddy’s sentence. However, the White House denied the report, and Diddy remains in prison.

How Long Is Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Jail Sentence?

A New York federal judge handed him 4 years and 2 months (50 months) in prison, factoring in time already served. He also received a $500,000 fine and will be subject to 5 years of supervised release after completing his sentence. Because he has already been in custody since his arrest, that time will count toward his overall sentence.

After being found guilty of transportation for prostitution and not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, Diddy’s prison sentence was not immediately determined, but prosecutors were reportedly hoping he would get at least 11 years behind bars.

What Did They Find in Diddy’s House Raids?

Diddy’s Miami and Los Angeles properties were raided by Homeland Security in mid-2024. Feds seized various items in both homes, including “Freak Off supplies, including narcotics and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant.”
