Kelly Ripa Reveals Why She and Mark Consuelos Had To Leave $27 Million New York Townhouse and Stay in a Hotel During Brutal Blizzard

Of all the places to hunker down during a bitter winter storm, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos‘ lavish $27 million townhouse would arguably be positioned among the most luxurious. Yet it was a luxury that the married TV hosts did not get to enjoy—revealing that they were forced to leave their New York dwelling and spend the night in a hotel so they could avoid any travel chaos caused by the recent East Coast blizzard.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Feb. 22 that all roads in the Big Apple would be closed to vehicles from 9 p.m. that evening until 12 p.m. the following day—forcing Ripa, 55, and Consuelos, 52, to take action to ensure that their show, “Live With Kelly and Mark,” could go ahead on Monday.

So, rather than sheltering from the brutal weather—which dumped around 20 inches of snow on Manhattan in a matter of hours—the couple decamped from their palatial abode to a hotel opposite their studio in Hudson Square so that they wouldn’t have any issues getting to work.

“Mark and I spent the night in a hotel last night,” Ripa revealed during the Feb. 23 broadcast of their show, which was filmed without its usual live audience.

But while the mother of three initially thought that the temporary move would make their commute far easier to handle, she said she was met with a very harsh reality when she and Consuelos stepped out of the door of their hotel.

“The hotel across the street from the studio. Which I thought would be an easy commute, but as it turns out, it was a very difficult commute because drudging through the snow [is hard] and the wind was very blustery,” she said.

However, she noted that the show’s executive producer, Michael Gelman, was not quite so lucky, having been stranded in Florida when his flight back to the city was canceled.

“It is a snow day around here, and Gelman is stuck in Florida,” Ripa revealed. “So we are running the show everybody!”

Her husband chose to see the bright side to the winter storm, however, noting that he and Ripa have weathered “ever major blizzard” that has struck the city in recent history together—adding that he hopes they will still be together for any others that might hit their home.

“This happens as you said, every 10 years,” he said. “We’ve been together for every major blizzard that has struck this city.”

Luckily, both of their guests managed to make it into the studio—including real estate mogul Ryan Serhant, who offered viewers his advice for buying and selling in today’s housing market, while also sharing some insights into the upcoming second season of his Netflix series “Owning Manhattan.”

Ripa and Consuelos appear to have returned to their home after taping their show, with the former sharing an image of their backyard covered in dense snow piles later that same day.

The photo was one of several posted by the on-air host during the two-day blizzard—including a nighttime shot that appears to have been taken from their hotel room, showing Manhattan blanketed by clouds and snow.

Other images showed the treacherous conditions that the couple had to navigate while trekking from their hotel to the studio—which moved locations in April 2025, having previously been situated on the Upper West Side.

In the image of her backyard area, Ripa revealed that much of the space had been blanketed in a thick layer of snow, including an area that was covered by a wooden cabana.

The couple has been living in the townhouse since 2013, when they purchased the enormous property for $27 million—having sold their former dwelling in Soho for $20 million.

In a 2024 video shoot for Architectural Digest, Ripa revealed that she fell in love with the townhouse as soon as she laid eyes on it, recalling: “I was like, ‘It’s perfect, just hand me my toothbrush.’ We’ve moved several times in our lives, but no matter where we go, for me, this is my forever home. When I walked in here, I was like, ‘This is the final place where I will live.’ I love this house so much.”

However, Consuelos revealed that he had wanted to add some personal touches to the home to suit their very specific tastes before they moved in. So the couple tapped designers William Sofield and Emma O’Neill of Studio Sofield to bring their vision of 1920s and 1930s “French glamour” to life.

The result is a mix of art deco and modern style that breathes new life into vintage pieces, including dual armoires that are now used as storage for sports equipment, while their shoes are hidden away in a custom-designed cabinet.

The overhaul they carried out before moving in helped them to create their perfect “forever home,” they said—with Ripa noting that she never plans to leave the property.

“I don’t want to sound morbid, but they’ll have to carry me out of here feet first because I have gotten good and comfortable in this house,” she joked.

Their lives have transformed since the pair moved in over a decade ago. Not only have their children—Joaquin, 21, Lola, 23, and Michael, 27—long since flown the coop, the duo have also experienced many professional evolutions.

Ripa, the longtime host of a syndicated daytime talk show, has cycled through numerous co-hosts during her time in the home. She first appeared on the show with Regis Philbin in 2001, then spent a year anchoring the series solo. In 2012, she welcomed Michael Strahan as her sidekick. Ryan Seacrest took over as co-host in 2017. Finally, in 2023, Consuelos was announced as the show’s co-host with his wife.

The couple met on the set of the soap opera “All My Children” in the 1990s.
