In an exciting new development, Khushi Kapoor is set to headline Mom 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 film Mom, which featured her late mother, the legendary Sridevi. Sources confirmed the news to NDTV, marking an important milestone in Khushi’s career.
Khushi, who stepped into the film industry with The Archies in 2023, is currently busy filming for the project. In addition to her debut, Khushi has also starred in movies like Loveyapa and Nadaaniyan. Mom 2 holds a special distinction as it is billed as the very first movie to be shot at the newly established International Film City, located along the Yamuna Expressway in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The sequel is being directed by Girish Kohli and features a talented ensemble cast, including Jisshu Sengupta and Karishma Tanna. The project is a family collaboration of sorts, as it is produced by Khushi’s father, Boney Kapoor, who also served as a co-producer on the original film. Akshai Puri is also backing the upcoming sequel.
Mom, directed by Ravi Udyawar, was a gripping revenge thriller and Sridevi’s final film. The story followed Devki (played by Sridevi), a mother who took it upon herself to seek justice for her stepdaughter, played by Sajal Ali, after a brutal assault. Sridevi’s powerhouse performance earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress posthumously.
During the promotions for the 2017 film, Sridevi had shared how deeply the role affected her. She said, “The character hit me strongly. It is full of emotions; it is all about emotions and feeling them. I withdraw myself as an actor from everything on the sets. I did not plan to be aloof or not talk to anybody; this story did not allow me to do it.” With Mom 2, Khushi Kapoor takes forward a legacy that remains close to the hearts of many cinema lovers.
