When news broke in late 2024 that an anonymous woman was accusing JAŸ-Z, and Sean “Diddy” Combs, of sexual assault, the Brooklyn rapper-turned-mogul vehemently denied the claim. Now in September 2026, the Jane Doe recanted her story — and she says she made the entire thing up.
According to Rolling Stone, the aforementioned former accuser wrote, “Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever,” in a 12-page declaration filed in Manhattan federal court.
The statement left no room for doubt when she added, “There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr. Carter. I understand my false accusations have caused Mr. Carter immense pain, suffering, and damage that can never be fully undone.”
Mr. Carter also reportedly dismissed the woman as a defendant in his malicious-prosecution lawsuit against Tony Buzbee. The Jane Doe maintains she was indeed raped, but not by JAŸ-Z.
“Our client maintains that she was a victim of sexual assault, but she was entirely mistaken in her allegations identifying Mr. Carter, and those allegations were false,” said Jane Doe’s new lawyer, James Blair Newman, Jr., in a statement, per Rolling Stone. “Mr. Carter did not rape her, sexually assault her, engage in any inappropriate conduct towards her, and she has never met him. She sincerely and unconditionally apologizes to Mr. Carter and his family.”
Shortly after the initial lawsuit, Jigga’s lawyer’s immediately started filing motions to have the suit dismissed. A common thread was the Brooklyn MC was pointing the finger at Buzbee for spearheading a campaign to slander his name.
But recently, a California appeals court ruled that JAŸ-Z would not be able to see Buzbee, a personal injury attorney, for extortion or defamation. However, in June 2026, the “Where I’m From” rapper did score a court victory when a Texas state judge dismissed a pair of lawsuits brought against Jay-Z’s Roc Nation by two of Buzbee’s clients.
JAŸ-Z’s malicious-prosecution lawsuit still remains in New York against Buzbee and his Texas-based law firm.
