Lady London says her 2020 Range Rover had fewer than 45,000 miles on it when it went up in flames. The rapper is asking the automaker for answers and says her sister suffered burns to her face.
As spotted on The Shade Room, footage shared on Instagram shows flames and thick black smoke rising from the SUV. Photos in the same carousel show the charred exterior and the damage to the back seats. London said she had kept up with regular servicing and that the vehicle caught fire without a collision.
The Range Rover was London’s first luxury car, a step up from the Nissan Sentra she used to drive. She said she bought it new with 13 miles on the odometer and paid it off in full. She even referenced Cam’ron’s pink Range Rover while explaining that she’d planned to keep hers forever. “Hard work made tangible,” she wrote.
London described the ordeal as traumatizing. “My sister’s face, burned. Thankful for life. Devastated at loss,” she wrote. She tagged Range Rover and asked anyone who had been through a similar incident to share their experience.
Born Zaire Stewart, Lady London grew up between the Bronx and East Orange, New Jersey. She studied sports medicine and chemistry at Howard University and went on to graduate school at the University of Southern California. A video of her reciting poetry went viral, and she built a following in Hip-Hop with her weekly “Lady Londays” freestyles.
She released the mixtape Lady Like: The Boss Tape in 2022 and signed with High Standardz/Def Jam in 2023, the same year she put out S.O.U.L. (Signs of Universal Love). She also appeared alongside Lola Brooke on Ciara’s “Da Girls” remix and went on to star in the Tubi docuseries Always, Lady London.
Some commenters under The Shade Room’s post took issue with how much of the caption focused on the SUV. One said the opening line about saying goodbye made them think London had lost her sister. “She talked about the car more than her sister,” another wrote.
Others defended London. One commenter pointed out that she was laying out the SUV’s history to explain why she was so surprised it could suddenly catch fire. The cause of the fire is unclear.
