She gets it from her mama! Sy’Rai Smith took to center court of the Crypto.com Arena to prove that of all the Brandy disciples, she is the true rightful heir.
In her debut National Anthem for the Los Angeles Lakers, Sy’Rai showed incredible vocal range complete with those undeniable Norwood tones and buttery transitions. Her famous mother sat courtside to cheer her on, later posting a video from her point of view, where she can be heard reacting to Sy’Rai’s performance in real time.
“Words will never fully express what it meant to witness my daughter Sy’rai @syraismith sing the national anthem for the first time at Crypto.com Arena… hearing her voice fill that arena was breathtaking,” Brandy said in a touching post. “My baby… standing in her own light. I wanted to take in every note and somehow hold the whole moment still. Sy’rai, I wish you could have heard yourself through my heart. I saw the little girl I held in my arms and the woman standing before me… and felt every year of loving you all at once.”
She continued,
“I am so proud of your voice, your courage, and the beautiful soul behind it all. Being your mother is a blessing I will never have enough words to thank God for. You gave that arena your voice… and gave your mama a moment she will carry for the rest of her life.”
Sy’Rai’s uncle Ray J also chimed in with some high praise for his niece saying,
“My little niece!!!”
The talented Norwood prodigy has been making her own mark on the music world, reintroducing herself and her sound to the industry via her album COLD WAR, released on Oct. 8. She also released two music videos proving that she’s the total package.
“Baby, you are a force to be reckoned with, “Brandy said in a post marking the milestone. “With COLD WAR, you are giving the world pieces of your becoming… the love, the heartache, the lessons, the courage it takes to recognize your worth. You are turning what you have lived into something someone else can feel… something that might help them find words for their own heart. That is such a beautiful gift.”
When it comes to the vocal Bible, it seems like we have a New Testament to read. Let the church say Amen!
