An article from The New York Times dated March 14, 2025, discusses the Trump administration’s plans to implement a new travel ban affecting citizens from dozens of countries, including four from the Caribbean.

The initiative follows an executive order signed by President Trump on January 20, 2025, which directed cabinet members to compile a list of countries with deficient vetting and screening information, warranting partial or full suspension of visa issuance for their nationals.

The proposed travel restrictions are divided into three groups:

  1. Red, Full Visa Suspension: Countries like Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Cuba, North Korea, and others would face a complete halt on visa issuance.
  2. Orange, Partial Suspensions: Nations such as Russia, Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, and South Sudan would see restrictions on tourist and student visas, with exceptions for business travelers.
  3. Yellow, Conditional Suspensions: Countries including Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Lucia, could face partial visa suspensions if they fail to address perceived deficiencies within 60 days.
