Duke Energy Names Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Duke Energy Carolinas

Duke Energy names Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Duke Energy Carolinas and Head of the Natural Gas Business Unit.

Prior to his current role, Ghartey-Tagoe served as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for Duke Energy, one of the nation’s largest energy holding companies.

Ghartey-Tagoe is a member of the company’s senior management committee and serves as the primary legal advisor to Duke Energy’s board of directors and senior management.

Ghartey-Tagoe led the Office of the General Counsel, which included the company’s legal, corporate governance, internal audit, and ethics and compliance functions.

Ghartey-Tagoe also oversaw Human Resources, including HR policy and strategy for the company’s 28,000 employees, diversity and inclusion, and employee and labor relations.

Ghartey-Tagoe previously served as president of Duke Energy’s utility operations in South Carolina and held a number of leadership positions within the legal department.

Ghartey-Tagoe serves on the board of directors of Energy Insurance Mutual, Ltd., the board of visitors of Duke University Law School and the President’s Advisory Board of Clemson University.

A native of Ghana, Ghartey-Tagoe earned a Juris Doctor from Duke University and a Bachelor of Arts degree, with joint honors in economics and finance, from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.
