Nationwide — Dr. April T. Berry, a licensed psychologist, professor, and entrepreneur, was diagnosed in January 2023 with Stage II Breast Cancer. Most of 2023 was spent undergoing 6 rounds of chemotherapy, 3 surgeries, and 25 rounds of radiation treatment. During this time, she never stopped being persistent, determined, and ambitious in serving others in the mental health field and teaching students.
When asked why she did not take time off during this time to focus on herself, she replied, “My career is not just a career, but my ministry. God has purposed me to serve others and remind them of the importance of climbing and maintaining,” her life’s motto. Climbing means continuing to strive for nothing but the best, finding ways around obstacles, and remaining persistent and ambitious even when you do not feel worthy of doing so. Maintaining means staying grounded in your purpose, continuing to be motivated to accomplish goals, and engaging in self-care and self-love. This is Dr. Berry’s fuel that keeps her momentum going.
This fuel is what inspired her to create Pathway 2 Purpose Wellness & Consulting, LLC in Mobile, Alabama, in 2023. She stated, “God gave me the name of my business in May 2022, but I felt that I was not ready to become an entrepreneur because I didn’t have it all together, so I just sat on it for an entire year and a half.”
It was not until she was on her breast cancer journey that Dr. Berry knew why God had given her the name of her business and what He wanted her to do with it. Her personal battle with breast cancer at 28 became a foundation of her resilience, and now her organization is dedicated to addressing significant mental health challenges within the community by specializing in holistic wellness and the unique needs of underrepresented groups. The mission is to empower individuals to discover holistic wellness, bridge the gaps in mental health care for marginalized groups, and reignite a sense of purpose and direction in every life touched.
In July 2025, Dr. Berry had to hold steadfast to the messages she gives others. She was diagnosed for the second time with breast cancer, this time Stage IV, due to the breast cancer returning in her lower spinal area. Though cancer returned, Dr. Berry says she has not stopped walking in faith, favor, and victory! Her cancer is now in remission, and she continues to provide mental health services, operate her business, and teach students.
Dr. Berry has a very specific niche dedicated to oncology therapy, where she seeks to provide specialized mental health services to those who are battling any form of cancer or who seek to become more aware of the effects of cancer on one’s mental health.
Dr. Berry has made it a mission to E.L.E.V.A.T.E. individuals:

Loving yourself during life journeys
Encouraging you to be the best you can be
Valuing you for who you are
