Ferg might have dropped A$AP from his name, but A$AP Rocky is reminding him that he still knows where home is. After the Harlem rapper announced that his next album is finished and put out a call for distribution, Pretty Flacko stepped into the comments with an invitation.
As spotted on Complex, Ferg took to Instagram on Monday (Oct. 12) to share his album update and ask who wanted to distribute the project. Rocky apparently didn’t need a formal pitch, responding directly beneath the post. “U know where home is ❤️ congratulations,” Rocky wrote.
The exchange suggests that Rocky is open to helping his longtime collaborator get the music out. Neither artist has announced a completed distribution agreement, but the comment carries some significance given their recent public remarks about Ferg distancing himself from the A$AP name.
Before shortening his moniker, Ferg became one of A$AP Mob’s most recognizable members alongside Rocky. Their musical history includes collaborations like “Shabba” and the “Work” remix, both associated with Ferg’s 2013 debut album, Trap Lord. His energy helped establish a distinct identity within the Harlem collective, even as his career remained closely tied to the crew.
More recently, Ferg has emphasized that he wants people to understand who he is outside of that association. During a September appearance on Complex Bets’ In Motion With Ashley Nicole Moss, he addressed both the name change and Rocky’s feelings about it.
As HotNewHipHop reported, Ferg explained that he used the name Ferg before working with the Mob and adopted A$AP Ferg when he became part of the collective. Returning to the shorter name, he said, reflects where he is in his life and career. “I got A$AP tatted on me,” he said, later explaining, “So now, I’m just going back to who I am.”
Ferg also pointed to how much the members’ lives have changed since their earlier days together. With everyone pursuing their own interests and responsibilities, he wants room to develop his individual identity and create opportunities beyond moving alongside Rocky. “We’re not mobbing anymore,” he said.
His explanation included the idea that building separate careers could give them more to bring back to one another. Ferg pointed to Rocky’s work in movies and his own interests in fitness as examples of how their ambitions have expanded. Constantly following someone else’s schedule, he suggested, could keep him from discovering what is meant for him.
Rocky, meanwhile, has acknowledged that the name change bothered him while continuing to express affection for Ferg. Speaking with Apple Music’s Ebro, he made it clear that his feelings about the decision didn’t erase their relationship. “I always love Ferg. Ferg, he got a good heart,” Rocky said.
For now, the Instagram exchange suggests there could be another opportunity for the two to work together without Ferg putting A$AP back in front of his name. Whether that becomes an actual distribution arrangement remains to be seen, but Rocky has made sure his longtime collaborator knows the invitation is there.
