Diddy’s alleged prison showdown with Christopher “Dudus” Coke has taken another turn, with federal prison officials denying that the reported fight ever happened.
As spotted on HotNewHipHop, the Bureau of Prisons has rejected reports that Sean Combs suffered a head injury during an altercation with the convicted Jamaican drug kingpin at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. The denial follows several days of conflicting accounts about what reportedly sent the Bad Boy founder out of the facility for medical treatment.
The story initially centered on a reported medical emergency. TMZ was among the first outlets to report on October 12 that Combs had been transported out of Fort Dix after suffering a head injury that weekend. According to the outlet, he received treatment and returned to the prison before sunrise.
On October 14, TMZ published a follow-up identifying Coke as the inmate allegedly involved in a fight with Combs. The account cited unnamed sources inside Fort Dix and alleged that tension had developed after NBC News published reporting about Combs’ access to contraband and other alleged perks behind bars. According to that account, subsequent prison searches resulted in confiscated phones, including one allegedly belonging to Coke.
That explanation was also different from an earlier account published by Page Six, which reported that Combs had injured himself by hitting his head on a bunk bed. Federal officials have now directly challenged the fight story. “We can tell you that the story you are referring to is false and did not happen,” a Bureau of Prisons spokesperson told TMZ on October 15.
The agency declined to provide further details when asked how Combs was injured. Separately, journalist Loren LoRosa reported that his family also denied that a fight with Coke occurred. TMZ responded by reaffirming its confidence in its sources concerning Combs’ injury and his transport out of Fort Dix. That leaves the alleged cause of the injury disputed, even as the medical-treatment story continues to circulate.
TMZ’s track record does include some high-profile corrections. In August 2024, the outlet reported that Beyoncé would perform during the final night of the Democratic National Convention. The appearance never happened, and TMZ eventually acknowledged, “we got this one wrong.”
In October 2022, TMZ also incorrectly reported that Jerry Lee Lewis had died. The outlet subsequently published a correction confirming that he was alive and stated, “TMZ regrets the error.” Those examples do not establish that the latest Diddy report is false, but they do show that TMZ has had to walk back celebrity scoops before. The latest dispute still leaves competing versions of what happened at Fort Dix.
Meanwhile, both men have also seen their projected release dates change. The Jamaica Observer reported October 14 that Coke’s projected release had moved from January 29, 2028, to January 28, 2029. The newspaper cited updated Bureau of Prisons records but did not provide an official explanation for the change. Coke received a 23-year prison sentence in 2012.
E! News reported that Combs’ projected release moved from January 21, 2028, to March 2, 2028, citing Bureau of Prisons records. Combs is serving a 50-month sentence following his 2025 conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
Both men have had their projected release dates pushed back, but those changes do not establish that the alleged fight occurred. For now, the Bureau is denying the altercation, while the circumstances surrounding Combs’ reported injury remain disputed.
