R&B heavyweights Chris Brown and Usher kicked off their five-night Atlanta run with frustrated fans, sound complaints, and plenty of social media speculation about whether everything was really all good between them.
Chris Brown and Usher’s highly anticipated “R&B Tour” was a lil too “Nice N’ Slow” on Nov. 5, as fans took to social media to vent about what they claimed was an almost three-hour wait before the R&B superstars finally hit the stage in Atlanta. Some fans thought there might be a beef brewing between the two R&B icons, as neither star performed together throughout the show—but Breezy took to social media to call the rumors untrue.
Crowdgoers complained about the show on social media.
The first night of their five-show run at Mercedes-Benz Stadium was scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., but according to frustrated concertgoers, the show didn’t get underway until after 10 p.m. And if fans thought the wait would be worth it, some left with even more complaints about the night’s production.
“Chris Brown & Usher are disrespecting everyone’s time. It’s 9:45 and the concert was slated to start at 7:30. DISRESPECTFUL ASSES,” wrote one irritated attendee on X.
But the late start wasn’t the only thing getting people talking. Several fans also complained about poor sound quality and alleged that the show wrapped earlier than expected, with the performance reportedly having to end by midnight because of local noise ordinances, according to some attendees, The JasmineBRAND noted. Needless to say, some concertgoers weren’t exactly feeling the love after spending hours waiting for the two R&B icons to appear.
Is there beef brewing between Chris Brown and Usher? Some fans think so. Here’s why.
And then there was the elephant in the stadium: the alleged tension between the headliners.
Fans noticed that Brown and Usher reportedly didn’t share the stage during the performance, with Usher even referring to the concert as “my show” at one point. That little moment was enough to send social media detectives into overdrive, with some wondering whether the longtime R&B stars were dealing with behind-the-scenes drama.
One X user even shared a screenshot that purportedly showed Usher had unfollowed Chris Brown, while Brown had also unfollowed the official R&B Tour page.
“They really don’t like each other. Usher should’ve never forgave him after he tried to harm him,” wrote one user, referencing rumors of an alleged altercation between the two singers in 2023.
This isn’t the first time there’s been alleged beef between the two.
As previously reported, Chris Brown and Usher were rumored to have gotten into a physical altercation in 2023 after Usher surprised Brown with a star-studded birthday celebration. The “Breezy De Mayo” party took place at Skate Rock City in Las Vegas, but according to reports, the festivities allegedly took an ugly turn after an “intoxicated” Chris became “disrespectful” toward Teyana Taylor for an “unknown reason.”
Things reportedly escalated when Brown allegedly called Usher a “coward” after the R&B veteran stepped in. Brown then reportedly stormed out of the party, with Usher following him in an attempt to calm the situation.
“Shockingly, that’s when things went completely left, with Chris Brown and his crew allegedly jumping the legendary R&B singer. The insider went on to say that the alleged beatdown was so bad that it left Usher with a ‘bloodied nose,’” a source claimed at the time.
Neither star publicly commented on the alleged incident.
And while the reported unfollowing was enough to raise eyebrows, another curious moment had fans revisiting Brown’s social media activity just days before the concert.
One fan shared a screenshot of an Instagram comment Brown allegedly left under a Mercedes-Benz Stadium promotional post advertising The R&B Tour.
“Ima Cook Blood,” the singer wrote in the comments section, according to the image.
“After this comment Chris Brown made on a post 2 days ago I could’ve told yall that they were beefing or something wasn’t right lol,” the fan speculated in the caption accompanying the screenshot.
So, between the alleged unfollows, the cryptic Instagram comment and the fact that the two performers reportedly didn’t share the stage, fans had plenty of reasons to start connecting dots. Whether those dots actually lead to a feud, however, remains another story.
Chris Brown shut down beef rumors on Friday.
Following the first Atlanta show, Usher hasn’t publicly addressed the chatter. Brown, on the other hand, appeared ready to shut down the speculation.
On his Instagram Story the morning of Nov. 6, the “Breezy” singer seemed to address the rumors, dismissing the online chatter as absolute “cap.”
“Internet [cap.] Don’t Fall For It,” he shared in a photo posted to his Instagram Story, according to a screenshot shared by RNB Radar on Friday.
Well, there you have it! Whether fans are reading too much into the social media activity or there’s more happening behind the scenes, one thing is clear: the first night of The R&B Tour gave the internet plenty to talk about. And with four more Atlanta shows on the schedule, fans will certainly be watching to see whether the two superstars bring the drama rumors to rest — or give social media even more material to dissect.
