Coi Leray and Benzino are giving their father-daughter relationship another shot, with a little help from the next generation.
As Complex reported, Leray recently paid a visit to The Jason Lee Show. The “Players” rapper discussed motherhood, co-parenting and family, including a welcome update on her relationship with her father, Benzino. “Me and my dad are really cool now. Like I love him so much,” she told Lee. Leray explained that becoming a mother has given her a new perspective on family. According to BCK Online, Benzino regularly FaceTimes to check on her daughter, Miyoco, whom she shares with Trippie Redd. His granddaughter apparently has no problem stealing the spotlight during those calls.
“He doesn’t even ask me how I’m doing,” Leray said, describing how quickly her father asks to see Miyoco. Watching the two develop their bond carries particular meaning for Leray, who said she did not have a close relationship with her own grandparents. Now, she gets to see her daughter experience that connection firsthand.
The warmer update follows years of tension that often played out publicly. As HotNewHipHop noted, Leray addressed disappointment in her father on “No More Parties,” while Benzino’s premature announcement of Nicki Minaj’s involvement in “Blick Blick” became another point of friction. By May 2024, Leray said they had not spoken in more than a year.
Reconnecting has also meant establishing some boundaries. Leray explained that she asked her father to stop discussing their relationship publicly, and the two agreed to keep their disagreements between them. She recalled him responding, “I’m sorry, you’re right, I’m sorry.”
Being responsible for her own family has also helped Leray better understand her father’s experiences. Still, making peace does not mean pretending their history never happened. “We forgive, we just don’t forget,” she said. For now, the two appear focused on giving their relationship room to grow—and giving Miyoco a relationship with her grandfather.
