For years now, Doja Cat has been one of the most polarizing celebrities in pop culture. The biracial artist has had a sketchy history when it comes cozying up to racists and her apparent support of Nazism in recent years.
Now it seems like Doja has some things to get off her chest and took to TikTok to drop a lengthy post about her past and not only revealed that she used to “hit the slopes” (use cocaine) but also admitted that it was very “obvious” that she suffered from self-hate, even from a young age. “I even would verbalize that out loud when I was maybe 16,” she said.
Doja explained that she began hating herself when she was 8 years old, when she moved to a predominantly white neighborhood. She didn’t understand why she was so different from the other kids who sported “pin-straight hair and blue eyes, white skin,” which ultimately led her to resent herself as she grew older.

Luckily, Doja is finally learning that Black is indeed beautiful and is now appreciating herself and who she is at this grown age. “As I get older, I’m really enjoying the way my hair looks and feels,” she said. Saying that she thinks going public with this topic is important due to people hiding their own self-hate as they walk through life, Doja is looking to embrace who she is fully and being the example to anyone else who may be stuck in the same self-hating rut that she was in for much of her young life.
Doja ended the video by adding that her use of nose candy only exacerbated those feelings over the years, but is now looking to clear the air and hopes to inspire others who may be suffering from the same insecurities she’s been dealing with thus far.
