D’Angelo’s upcoming album is officially on the way, and fans will finally get to hear new music from the neo-soul icon. His older brother, Luther Archer, confirmed that a posthumous project is in the works, with six tracks already completed.

Archer shared the news in an interview, almost exactly a year after D’Angelo died of pancreatic cancer on October 14, 2025. As previously reported, his death followed a private battle with the disease. He was 51.
“We’ve got an album coming out,” Archer said, according to Complex. “There are six tracks [so far]. But then we have a whole vault of music that’s never been released.”
The family doesn’t appear to be stopping with one project. Archer said they are “also thinking about a whole album of B-sides,” adding that “there’s several projects down the road.” Complex also reported that the material under consideration includes unreleased songs featuring Mary J. Blige and Michael Jackson, which would be a major moment for fans who have long wondered what D’Angelo had tucked away in his archives. No release date or tracklist for the project has been shared yet.
The confirmation also follows a trail of hints from his inner circle. Questlove told reporters on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame red carpet in November 2025 that unreleased music was coming, describing it as “the sound of yesterday, but for the future.” That description fits the way D’Angelo built his reputation, blending old-school soul with a sound that always seemed to be ahead of its time.
For a singer with such an enormous influence, D’Angelo’s catalog is remarkably small. He released only three studio albums across three decades: Brown Sugar in 1995, Voodoo in 2000, and Black Messiah in 2014, with the last two both winning the Grammy for Best R&B Album. That makes D’Angelo’s upcoming album his first new full-length project since 2014, and the first time many fans have had something new to look forward to from him in years.
