RE Ad Site Seeks Success by Hiding Addresses

A small number of sellers want to maintain privacy, but MatchMyPlace does it for everyone, listing only cities, prices and a limited number of photos.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Metro Orlando homeowners now can use MatchMyPlace real estate brokerage’s online platform to sell their house without revealing its address.

The concept: Buyers who search the website will only see cities, price points and a limited number of photos of for-sale properties displayed. A map shows a general area of the home without exposing specific identifiers.

If a buyer is interested in a particular home, they sign up for a free membership and receive more data, but they must obtain preapproval for a mortgage if they want to delve any deeper and work with a specialist agent.

MatchMyPlace CEO Nikki Bateman says that some sellers want privacy, but other owners wish to list anonymously if they own a luxury home and don’t want to advertise that it will be vacant. And “most landowners do not want to put their 50-100 acres on the [multiple listing service] because they don’t want people to show up with their tents.”

MatchMyPlace also caters to elected officials who can keep their addresses out of the public eye, although free speech proponents say this makes them less accountable. However, Bateman said politics does not enter into the company’s policy of upholding clients’ privacy.

Because selling a house without an address is a challenge for agents, MatchMyPlace says it’s working with Keller Williams Realty to train over 1,000 agents on using the privacy system.
