Rick Ross’ son allegedly survived a frightening encounter involving a handgun in Daytona Beach, Florida. Now, 50 Cent has inserted himself into the situation, offering to help the suspect and drawing a heated response from the young man’s mother, Tia Kemp.
As spotted on Complex, William Roberts III, the son of Ross and Kemp, told police he was pistol-whipped and threatened during an Oct. 11 confrontation. Details became public through reporting on the police account and court records, with local outlet WKMG News 6 also covering the alleged attack.
William, a football player at Bethune-Cookman University, told investigators he was speaking with a woman on a sidewalk when a man approached with a handgun. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Don Roberts III, allegedly pointed the weapon at him and threatened his life. Despite sharing a surname, the two men are unrelated. “I don’t care who your daddy is, I’ll kill you right here,” the suspect allegedly said, according to police.
William alleged that the man struck him in the head with the firearm before driving away. He believed the confrontation may have involved the woman’s previous romantic relationship with the suspect. William contacted police the following day, saying fear had initially kept him from reporting the incident, and later identified the suspect in a photo lineup.
According to Complex, Don Roberts turned himself in Oct. 16 on felony charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He pleaded not guilty Oct. 19. That’s where 50 Cent decided to involve himself. After reports surfaced, the Queens rapper took to Instagram with an offer to help the man accused of attacking his longtime rival’s son. Sharing the suspect’s booking information, 50 tagged attorney Drew Findling and claimed he would arrange assistance, while somehow finding room to promote Street Fighter.
“I got him he will be out tomorrow I’m sending @drewfindling,” 50 wrote. “This is a big misunderstanding that can easily be resolved. This was a street fight, I mean STREET FIGHTER is in theaters! LOL.” His caption amounted to a public promise, not confirmation that he had paid bail or secured the suspect’s release. Likewise, tagging Findling did not establish that the attorney had agreed to represent the man.
William’s mother, Tia Kemp, also known as “Yuntie,” soon addressed the matter. According to theJasmineBRAND, Kemp blasted 50 on social media for mocking her son’s alleged assault. Her response also dragged his former partner, Daphne Joy, and their son into the exchange. “U wanna play? U have NO room to post anyone’s child,” Kemp wrote in part.
Instead of backing off, 50 returned to Instagram with another jab. This time, he shared throwback photos appearing to show him and Kemp posing together, pairing the images with a caption that took another shot at her son. “Damn Tia you sound tougher than ya boy, I ain’t got time to argue with you,” he wrote. “You see my new movie STREET FIGHTER it’s #1 you know I love you girl.”
The response offered no apology. Instead, 50 folded another movie promotion into an exchange that had already moved well beyond him and Ross trading insults. For all the years these two have spent going at each other, offering assistance to a man accused of attacking your rival’s son takes the feud somewhere considerably uglier. William’s allegations remain a matter for the courts, but 50’s decision to turn them into promotional material is right there in his own captions.
