Romeo Hunte Mixes Prep & Street In It’s SS27 NYFW Collection

Romeo Hunte took us back to school for Spring/Summer 2027, and the dress code got a major upgrade.

For his Ivy Noir runway show during New York Fashion Week, the Brooklyn designer brought prep and urban streetwear together in a way that was just dope. Blazers, button-downs, bow ties and collegiate crests gave us the prep. Denim, oversized proportions, leather, exposed skin and sporty details brought the streetwear. Satin fabrics gave us chic couture.

Together, the mix felt cool, trendy and very New York.

Held on September 11 at a popular venue in the middle of Times Square, the show brought fashion straight into the heart of New York City. The celebrity designer presented his 30-look collection in front of a stylish crowd ready to take notes.

Yaya DaCosta walked in a striped button-down tucked into layered denim and a short burgundy pleated skirt. An oversized black blazer with a crest patch topped it off. The popped collar and exaggerated cuffs made the familiar pieces feel much less traditional.

Hunte also played with suiting by making it sexier.

A white button-down plunged nearly to the waist and was tucked into high-waisted black leather briefs. An asymmetrical black pant leg added drama while leaving the other leg completely exposed.

The menswear followed the same rule-breaking formula.

A double-breasted black blazer came with gray sweatshirt sleeves, cropped gray shorts and striped socks. A bow tie and crest gave prep school, but the proportions and athletic touches brought it straight to the streets.

Another look paired jeans and a striped shirt with an oversized navy bow tie. Hunte layered a long tan coat over it, adding bold red-and-white trim around the collar and sleeves.

Romeo Hunte SS27: From The Classroom To Brunch

In addition to the uniform-inspired pieces, Hunte gave us clothes ready to leave the classroom and head straight into the boardroom, brunch or wherever else the day takes us.

A red satin midi dress brought a softer, more polished moment to the runway. The rich color was sexy, while the longer hem and flowing silhouette felt conservative, feminine and grown. Its fitted shape and plunging neckline still gave the dress enough edge to sit comfortably beside the collection’s bolder looks.

Sharp tailoring continued to meet denim, sportswear and bare skin throughout the show. Masculine and feminine references moved easily together, while classic prep codes became shorter, looser and cooler.

Ivy Noir felt like prep school after moving to New York and getting a little street style education.
