The Academy Museum Gala was held on Oct. 17 in Los Angeles and, as usual, the stars were out in their best looks, giving us fashion FOMO.
Hollywood’s dashing divas and handsome hunks descended upon the Academy Museum of Motion Picture for the gala, which was co-hosted by some our favs like Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Celebs like Kerry Washington—who donned a sparkly Elie Saab gown and a perfect bob on the evening—posed it up on the carpet, bringing a flair of drama and high fashion that the event has become synonymous with.
Style architect Law Roach was also one of the toasts of the gala, styling the likes of Tracee Ellis Ross, Jodie Turner Smith, Kim Kardashian and himself. Of course, he didn’t come to play with the girls, dressing Kim in 1951 Balenciaga, Tracee in SS27 Balenciaga, Jodie in Mugler and himself in Gaurav Gupta with a vintage Phillip Treacy.
The gala also presented actor Colman Domingo with the Vantage Award. On the evening, over $14 million was raised to support the Academy Museum’s exhibitions, education initiatives, and public programs. Inside, celebs were treated to a dinner prepared by guest chef Antonia Lofaso and Wolfgang Puck Catering as well as a performance by Taylor Swift.
Over the years, the evening has become as popular for its fashion as its cause, with celebrities pulling out all the stops to have the perfect red carpet photo to accompany their attendance. From reaching for back into the archives of legendary fashion houses to wearing designs that haven’t even hit the runway, the Academy Museum Gala has become the place to see and be seen.
And for stars like Janelle Monae—who wore a blue, sequined Robert Wun dress complete with a butterfly bodice—it is another chance to prove that they understand the importance of leaving a stylish impression.
Looks like a fab time for all!
