Don’t look now, but there’s a new “White Boy of The Year”. Superstar singer Justin Bieber was given the title at the second edition of the Believe That Awards, created and hosted by NBA star Anthony Edwards and Nick Maddox. The event is billed as “an awards show where no one is safe.”
The Canadian superstar takes over the award from last year’s winner, Timothée Chalamet with the ceremony airing via Edwards’ YouTube channel on Wednesday (October 14). Bieber himself appeared in a video accepting the award near the end of the show.
“Mr. Anthony Edwards himself honoring me with the White Boy of the Year award,” Bieber said, rocking a grey hooded sweatshirt as he accepted the distinction. “Man, thank you, bro. This is special. Everyone knows how influenced I am by Black culture, and this one’s sweet. I appreciate you guys. I’ll tap in with you guys soon.”
Bieber beat out actors Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson, as well as Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and the Norweigian striker who plays for Manchester City in the Premier League, Erling Haaland. His speech marked a slight change from Chalamet’s win last year, which the Marty Supreme actor marked with a Gucci Mane quote.
The fun didn’t stop there, as Edwards and crew also honored streamer iShowSpeed with an award as well as viral comedic personality Druski (who won Main Character of the Year) and tennis star Coco Gauff, who won “The Beauty and The Beast” Award, which Edwards described as someone who “serves looks and a— whippings.”
The Believe That Awards also had Edwards’ newest Timberwolves teammate, LaMelo Ball as a co-host. Edwards set the tone early with a quick spiel about what the rest of the NBA could expect from the team this year. “When yall see the Timberwolves come in town yall n—— need to know they on bulls—,” he said, adding: “you got the light skin, you got the brown skin and you got the black a— n—-s..”
