Black Dad Launches Sanitary Napkin Brand With His 3 Daughters After His Wife’s Struggles With Heavy Bleeding

Demond Crump with his wife and daughters

Nationwide — Demond Crump, an African American father and entrepreneur, turned a difficult health experience in his own family into a mission to make menstrual health easier to discuss. After seeing his wife, Quiana, deal with heavy bleeding following a partial hysterectomy, he began searching for feminine-hygiene products that could better meet her needs. That search eventually led him to start a business focused on sanitary products and open conversations about periods.

Quiana’s health problems gave Crump a closer look at an issue he had rarely discussed before. According to 11Alive, he said he struggled to find products that could handle her heavy bleeding and realized that many men may know very little about the menstrual and reproductive-health challenges women face. Instead of staying away from the subject, he decided to learn more so he could support his wife and daughters.

In 2019, Crump launched Reign Premium Sanitary Napkins in McDonough, Georgia. His daughters, Milan and Leah, later became part of the family business. For Crump, getting involved in feminine health was a natural part of being a husband and father. He has said that men often take on the role of providing and protecting their families, and his wife’s experience made him realize that feminine health should be part of those conversations too.

Milan remembers watching her mother deal with fibroids before undergoing a partial hysterectomy. She said she did not fully understand what her mother was going through when she was younger. With time, she came to understand how fibroids affect many women and why it is important to pay attention to the products used during menstruation. Her mother’s experience became one of the reasons she wanted to help with the family’s work.

The business has also taken its message into the community. Reign says it aims to offer affordable feminine-hygiene products, with each pack costing about $6. The company has visited schools and organized outdoor activities for young people while encouraging more open discussions about periods and feminine health. It is also working on vending machines that could eventually provide menstrual products at airports, colleges, and high schools.

Leah said the subject is easier for women to discuss because menstruation is something many have experienced. That openness has helped the Crump family treat periods as a normal health topic rather than something embarrassing. What started with one father trying to help his wife has grown into a family effort to make menstrual health products more accessible and conversations about periods less taboo.
