Black Mom-Daughter Duo Celebrate 9 Years in Business, Expand Their Plant-Based Beauty Supply Store into Larger Retail Space

Thelma and Kristie Coleman

Nationwide — Founded by a Black mother-and-daughter duo, KT Beauty Boom has grown from a deeply personal healing journey into a highly recognized Black-owned plant-based beauty supply store in Houston, Texas. They themselves formulate all of the products on their shelves. For the past nine years, Thelma Coleman and her daughter, Kristie, have built a powerful legacy rooted in family, resilience, and natural wellness, transforming their passion for holistic beauty into a six-time award-winning company that has helped thousands restore their hair, skin, and confidence. Now, after years of continued growth and community support, the two entrepreneurs have officially expanded their store into a larger retail location inside Almeda Mall to better serve their rapidly growing customer base.

Founded in 2017, KT Beauty Boom was inspired by a deeply emotional family experience that changed the course of their lives forever. Thelma became the company’s very first customer after losing all of her hair during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. After trying numerous products without success, both Thelma and Kristie turned to natural ingredients and holistic remedies in their search for healing. What started as a personal mission soon became life-changing when the family began seeing real hair regrowth and restoration using handmade formulas created by Kristie.

Long before their business became an award-winning brand, Kristie had already developed a passion for herbalism and natural beauty while attending college and beginning her own healthy hair journey. Through years of research and experimentation, she began working with ingredients such as rosemary, aloe vera, turmeric, black seed oil, pumpkin seed oil, batana oil, shea butter, mango butter, bentonite clay, saw palmetto, and lemongrass. Those early experiments eventually became the foundation of KT Beauty Boom’s signature products and natural hair growth solutions.

Today, both Thelma and Kristie have transformed their store into one of the area’s most respected Black-owned beauty businesses. The company has earned six beauty awards and was also recognized by Google
as the number one beauty product supplier in its area — a major achievement for the family-owned business. Kristie has additionally earned recognition as an 11-time award-winning producer and the author of the Amazon best-selling book, Manifest Hair Growth Journal, inspiring women nationwide to embrace natural healing and self-care.

Together, they have built KT Beauty Boom into more than just a beauty company. The mother-and-daughter team has created a community-centered brand focused on education, empowerment, and wellness. Every product is handmade in small batches using plant-based ingredients designed to nourish the scalp, reduce shedding, support healthy hair growth, calm irritated skin, and help customers avoid harsh chemicals often found in traditional beauty products.

KT Beauty Boom now offers a full line of hair and skincare products, including shampoos, conditioners, hair butters, growth balms, leave-in conditioners, soaps, body oils, beard kits, and a baby collection inspired by Thelma’s granddaughter, who was born prematurely and struggles with eczema. The collection reflects their family’s continued commitment to creating gentle, healing products for families and individuals with sensitive skin.

In addition to their products, they also host annual hair shows and educational events that bring the community together to celebrate healthy hair, confidence, and holistic beauty. Their events have become known for inspiring attendees through education, empowerment, and practical solutions for hair and scalp wellness.

As KT Beauty Boom’s popularity continued to grow throughout Houston and beyond, Thelma and Kristie recently made the decision to relocate to a larger retail space inside Almeda Mall. The larger location allows the business to expand its product offerings, host more consultations, and provide a bigger and more personalized experience for customers seeking natural beauty and wellness solutions.

Customers visiting the new retail location can receive personalized scalp consultations, ask questions directly, and learn more about natural approaches to hair and skin care from Thelma and Kristie themselves. They say their mission has always been about far more than selling beauty products — it has been about healing, restoration, confidence, and building a lasting legacy that can inspire future generations of Black entrepreneurs and families.

KT Beauty Boom is located at 12200 Gulf Freeway, Suite 432, inside Almeda Mall in Houston, Texas.
