It looks like Bronny James might extend his NBA career outside of Los Angeles. A recent report has declared that multiple teams around the National Basketball Association have their eyes on the third-year guard, hoping to trade for him before the 2026-2027 season gets underway.
This was fueled by an insider report from Yahoo Sports citing an unnamed league executive who points to Bronny’s development within his short career. “There’s definitely interest there,” the executive said. “He’s gotten much better in a short period. He knows his role, and it’s hard to find young guys who just want to excel in their role.”
Bronny expounded on that to the press during a training camp interview. “I think just building on defensive instinct, how I was in the playoffs, picking up full court, taking up the ball forward, [the coaching staff] have been emphasizing that,” he said of the work he’s put in this preseason.
Bronny James also mentioned that he’s been tasked with defending Lakers stars like Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, in addition to being deployed as a primary ballhandler with Quentin Grimes.
There has been no mention of which teams are seeking to acquire the son of NBA great LeBron James, who was selected with the 55th pick by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. The Lakers have not commented publicly on moving
Bronny; there were also rumors of him joining LeBron in Philadelphia with the Sixers, but Rich Paul dismissed that idea.
In Bronny James’ first year, he played in 27 games and averaged 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 6.7 minutes per game. His numbers went up in 2025, averaging 8.9 minutes per game. He averaged 2.9 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists over 42 games.
The Lakers do have an issue with their roster – they have to let go of a guaranteed contract before the regular season begins. Forward Dalton Knecht and guard Jaden Hardy are also considered as players who could be moved in a consolidation trade.
