JAŸ-Z has spent years helping shape the Super Bowl halftime show. Now, Hov is stepping into the spotlight himself.
As spotted on Complex, the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation have officially announced that the Brooklyn rapper will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show. The performance is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. ESPN revealed the news Monday night, October 26, during its broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys–Philadelphia Eagles game, after last week’s reports that he was preparing to take the gig.
The announcement leaned into Hov’s place in the GOAT conversation. A black-and-white promotional video features him seated in stadium stands with a goat on his lap and others beside him. With “Public Service Announcement” providing the soundtrack, the creative makes the greatest-of-all-time reference literal, accompanied by the message “GOAT’S OUT OF THE BAG.”
In the accompanying press statement, JAŸ-Z reflected on the journey from his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, to the Super Bowl stage, framing the booking as another milestone in three decades of music and cultural influence. “This run continues to be a dream come true,” he said.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had hoped this day would come since the league first partnered with Roc Nation. According to Goodell, he had asked JAŸ-Z to perform himself “whenever the moment felt right to him.” He also praised the rapper’s influence on the halftime show and expressed excitement about bringing his artistry to the stage.
Apple’s vice president of Music and International Content, Oliver Schusser, similarly pointed to JAŸ-Z’s impact on music and the company’s work with him behind the scenes, predicting “an incredible show.”
The booking follows a busy year for the JAŸ-Z30 campaign, which has celebrated the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint through concerts, pop-ups, merchandise and catalog releases. The rollout has given longtime fans a chance to revisit the music while putting Hov back in front of stadium crowds.
That concert run included performances in New York, London and Paris before closing with two sold-out nights at SoFi Stadium on October 23 and 24. The Los Angeles finale featured Too $hort, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre, giving the crowd a West Coast celebration at the same venue where JAŸ-Z will return for the Super Bowl.
The campaign has also extended beyond the stage. GQ documented a Brooklyn pop-up at DUMBO’s Smack Mellon gallery that brought together memorabilia, exclusive merchandise, and references to the “Dead Presidents” video. Reissues and archival releases have accompanied the anniversary celebration, while Roc Nation’s 30th Anniversary Collector’s Crate packages all 13 of his solo studio albums on vinyl.
Earlier in the year, his May 30 headlining appearance at Philadelphia’s Roots Picnic reminded fans he still had fresh bars. Backed by The Roots, JAŸ-Z delivered a freestyle that listeners interpreted as shots at several detractors, including Drake and Dame Dash. The set also brought familiar Roc-A-Fella faces back together, including Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel and Freeway.
His move to the Super Bowl stage adds another chapter to Roc Nation’s relationship with the NFL. The company struck its partnership with the league in August 2019, taking on a role advising on live music entertainment, including halftime talent, while also supporting the NFL’s Inspire Change social justice initiative. Its first Super Bowl halftime production came in 2020, featuring Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
Since then, Roc Nation has delivered shows featuring The Weeknd, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar, and Bad Bunny, including the 2022 showcase led by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Lamar. That 2022 performance, also staged at SoFi, produced plenty of memorable images, including 50 Cent’s surprise entrance, hanging upside down. The production earned three Emmys, including Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Two years later, Usher brought his catalog to Las Vegas with roller-skating choreography, an Alicia Keys reunion and a “Yeah!” finale alongside Lil Jon and Ludacris.
Rihanna’s 2023 show paired suspended platforms with the reveal of her second pregnancy, while Lamar’s 2025 set brought out SZA, Serena Williams and Samuel L. Jackson. Most recently, Bad Bunny’s 2026 show celebrated Puerto Rican culture, featuring Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. JAŸ-Z will now follow the artists his company has helped bring to life in halftime shows.
The NFL partnership has also drawn continued criticism. In a September interview with NPR, Colin Kaepernick said he found JAŸ-Z’s decision to work with the league disappointing and argued that the deal undermined the players’ protests against racial injustice. Those comments preceded the halftime announcement. JAŸ-Z has previously defended the partnership as an opportunity to pursue change, while NPR reported that Roc Nation did not respond to its request for comment for the September story.
Roc Nation will executive produce JAŸ-Z’s halftime telecast, with Hamish Hamilton directing. Super Bowl LXI takes place Sunday, February 14, 2027, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT. ESPN and ABC will air the game, and Disney+ will stream it, with mobile viewing available through NFL+.
Based on typical Super Bowl timing, viewers should expect halftime around 8–8:30 p.m. ET, although the start will depend on how the first half unfolds. Performances generally run approximately 12–15 minutes; JAŸ-Z’s exact runtime, setlist, and special guests have not been announced.
