Sanya Richards-Ross Talks Gold, Grit, and Legacy on The Morning Hustle
Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross brought her winning energy to The Morning Hustle bringing a wide-range conversation about career, family, and culture.
Sanya opened up about her new Scripps Networks show, Beyond the Curve, which spotlights people who keep achieving greatness after their first big chapter. Featured guests include Kirk Franklin, Lecrae, and Jemele Hill. As a mom of three, Sanya explained how athletic discipline shapes daily life. Her advice centered on delayed gratification: “If you stick with it, great things happen.”
She revisited her heartbreaking 2008 bronze in Beijing and how that loss fueled her 2012 London gold. “I think that moment defined who I have become as a human being.” Sanya kept it real about athlete pay, revealing there’s no prize money at the Olympics: “They keep trying to say it’s an amateur sport, but that has been Gone with the Wind fabulous.”
On the topic of the sexualization of female athletes, she explained that she never personally felt uncomfortable competing and her personal choice to compete in tights. Sanya also broke down what’s keeping rising stars like Sha’Carri Richardson from breaking through, and how new improvements could finally push someone to beat Flo-Jo’s legendary world record.
When it comes to her personal life, she shared how she confidently approached her husband in the University of Texas cafeteria, encouraging women to speak up when moved. The business of family put her center stage on Shark Tank with her pajama brand, and sold out her brand.
While Richards-Ross is back on the screen with her new talk show, she’s happy she left Real Housewives of Atlanta after two wonderful seasons of sharing her story and life. But at the end of the day, she wants to be remembered for her legacy as an Olympic champion.
