Google and Apple both bowed down to Donald Trump and his stupid renaming of Lake Ontario to Lake America, but one company used the moment to take a stand: Mapquest.
Once again, the two tech giants couldn’t help themselves and kissed the ring for no good reason except to please Orange Mussolini by changing the name of Lake Ontario on their maps, a move they necessarily didn’t have to do.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple Maps capitulated, like Google following Trump’s ridiculous order in response to Canada a pretty much owning him in the uncecessary trade war with our neighbor’s to the north.
Hilariously, Mapquest, the OG platform that had us printing out turn-by-turn directions before GPS arrived took a swipe at Trump and his stupid renaming of Lake Ontario, proclaiming they are “not changing it” on their maps, which got Eric Trump to react BIGLY on social media.
Social media rewarded Mapquest for standing up to Trump by making it the number one app on Apple’s App Store.
Social media has also been dragging both Google Maps and Apple Maps. Engineer and researcher Robert Aldrige wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “”hate all these spineless companies,” engineer and researcher Robert Aldrige wrote on X. “Apple, Google, and Microsoft are all more powerful than the US government. F—— cowards.”
Washburn University law professor Joseph Mastrosimone, wrote, “It is still Lake Ontario. It is still the Gulf of Mexico. If you use a different label for those bodies of water, it is a tell that you are a moron.”
Political commentator Lucas Sanders wrote, “Shame on Apple Maps for caving to Donald Trump! Who else is done with Apple Maps?”
