2Pac’s BMW From 1996 Shooting Is Up For Sale For Almost $2M

One of hip-hop’s most famous (yet fateful) artifacts could be yours for nearly $2 million.

The BMW that 2Pac was riding in when he was fatally shot in 1996 is up for sale via Celebrity Cars Las Vegas, marking the first time it has been publicly listed or displayed since the tragic incident.

The vehicle is valued at a cool $1.75 million and “has undergone a comprehensive restoration to return it to the condition it was in prior to the shooting and has recently received a fresh coat of paint” courtesy of its most recent owner, according to the listing.

The car, which is a black 1996 BMW 7 Series equipped with a 5.4 litre 12-cylinder engine and black leather interior, still bears a few faint marks from the drive-by shooting that gunned down 2Pac almost 30 years ago, though.

“There is a small exterior indentation believed to correspond with one of the bullet impact points, though it is subtle and difficult to distinguish,” Celebrity Cars notes. “The interior door panel and liner have been carefully pulled back to reveal original weld marks, which are visible in the exact locations where the bullets penetrated the vehicle — further corroborating its historical significance.”

In addition to possessing a one-of-a-kind item with a haunting backstory, the car’s new owner will “receive documentation verifying the vehicle’s ownership and historical provenance.”

A video tour of the vehicle can be seen below.

2Pac was a passenger in the BMW alongside Suge Knight, who was the driver, when he was shot multiple times at a red light in Las Vegas following the Mike Tyson vs. Bruce Seldon fight on September 7, 1996.

The Death Row Records rapper, who was just 25 years old at the time, died from his injuries six days later. Suge was grazed by a bullet in the shooting and survived.

The high-profile case, which many believe was connected to the killing of ‘Pac’s friend-turned-foe Biggie just six months later, remained unsolved for over 25 years until the arrest of Duane “Keefe D” Davis in September 2023.

Davis, a former Crip gang leader from Los Angeles, stands accused of playing a key role in the deadly attack. Authorities say he not only helped to orchestrate the hit, but rode in the car from which the shots were fired and even handed the murder weapon to the gunman (believed to be Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson, who was killed in 1998).

Much of the evidence behind the murder charge actually came from Davis himself, who had confessed to participating in the shooting in his 2019 book Compton Street Legend as well as in various interviews.

Davis, 62, had incorrectly believed that he had immunity in the case due to a proffer agreement he struck with federal authorities back in 2008, in which he told detectives about his involvement in 2Pac’s murder.

However, Las Vegas police had no role in the joint task force agreement while Davis’ own public statements in the media made his confession fair game for prosecutors.

Keefe D’s trial is expected to begin on August 10 following multiple delays.
